WHY ANGUILLA IS THE PERFECT ISLAND FOR A BEACH VACATION

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

The Caribbean is known for its impressive collection of beautiful beaches. From family beaches and hidden alcoves to exceptional snorkeling and lively bars, each island offers something slightly different from the next.

When you think about the beaches of the Caribbean, you probably picture places like the Cayman Islands, Aruba, and Turks and Caicos. All of these islands are beloved for a good reason! They offer a perfectly balanced blend of all the best that the Caribbean has to offer. However, if you are dreaming of a peaceful retreat and an escape from the crowds, there is one little island that probably isn't even on your radar – but it should be!

Tucked in the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea is the idyllic island of Anguilla. Often overlooked for the neighboring Virgin Islands and Saint Martin, the British territory of Anguilla is the perfect island for anyone looking for a quiet Caribbean retreat. The whole island is only 16 miles and three miles wide and is home to some of the friendliest locals in the Caribbean.

Anguilla is renowned for its spectacular beaches. One of the most famous beaches in Anguilla is Shoal Bay Beach on the island's northeastern edge. This beach features long stretches of sand, perfect for taking a lazy walk on the beach. Dig your heels into the pink-hued sand as you soak up the Caribbean sun.

Another famous beach is Meads Bay. The beach is flanked by iridescent turquoise water on one side and impressive luxury resorts on the other. Meads Bay offers some of the finest beach-going experiences on the island.

Of course, it is hard to talk about Anguilla beaches without mentioning Sandy Island. Sandy Island is Anguilla's little slice of paradise that is only accessible by ferry and absolutely worth the trip. Spend a day swimming in the brilliant blue water or enjoy a cool cocktail at the island's tiki bar.

When the sun has set, there is still plenty to experience on the island of Anguilla. Not only is the food outstanding, but there are also great bars where you can enjoy a drink, listen to live music, and get a feel for life on the island!
